SYCAMORE – A Sandwich man is facing charges after police said he was found in possession of child pornography photos, and in one he edited in the face of a family member’s child.
Jose A. Medellin, 24, of the 300 block of Wentworth Drive in Sandwich, is charged with seven counts of possession of child pornography, all Class X felonies. If convicted, he could face up to 30 years in jail or an extended sentence of 60 years.
Medellin appeared for a virtual bond hearing Monday in front of DeKalb County Circuit Court Judge Robbin Stuckert, who released Medellin on a personal recognizance bond.
According to DeKalb County court records, the charges stem from a Dec. 10 complaint alleging Medellin had photos of child pornography. Sandwich police conducted a search warrant of his home on Dec. 10. Medellin was at home at the time.
Records show he was interviewed by police at the Sandwich Police Department after the search, and he admitted to downloading child pornography from the internet.
Records show Medellin told police he used Adobe software to edit in the face of a family member’s child to replace one of the child pornography images. The child was younger than 13, according to records.
In total, police found Medellin in possession of seven images of child pornography.
He’s next set to appear for a status hearing at 9:45 a.m. Jan. 12.
