IDPH: More than 90% of those 65 and older have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine

COVID-19 hospitalizations remain in the 400s as 1,221 new confirmed, probable cases identified over long weekend

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 1,221 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 27 additional deaths from over the holiday weekend on Tuesday.

A total of 12,705,445 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered, 57,278 more than was reported Friday. About 72.2% of Illinois adults have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

The state received the results of 39,627 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Tuesday afternoon. The state’s positivity rate reached 1.1%.

Illinois has seen 1,393,773 total cases of the virus, and 23,272 people have died. The state has conducted a total of 25,962,476 tests since the start of the pandemic.

As of late Tuesday, Illinois had 421 COVID-19 patients in the hospital. Of those, 98 were in intensive care units, and 41 were on ventilators.

Vaccine update: As of Tuesday, IDPH reported a total of 14,289,145 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been distributed statewide, with 12,705,445 vaccines administered.

As of the time this story was published, 6,226,909 of the population of Illinois have been fully vaccinated, or 48.87%. Illinois has a population of 12,741,080 people.

Among Illinois residents 12 and older:

Fully Vaccinated: 5,895,261 (54.4%)

At Least 1 Dose: 7,560,203 (69.8%)

Among Illinois residents 18 and older:

Fully Vaccinated: 5,602,052 (56.9%)

At Least 1 Dose: 7,111,206 (72.2%)

Among Illinois residents 65 and older:

Fully Vaccinated: 1,516,685 (74.2%)

At Least 1 Dose: 1,841,603 (90.1%)

There can be as much as a 72-hour delay in reporting from healthcare providers on vaccines administered.

Regional update: All 11 regions in the state are in Phase 5.

Regional data from the IDPH remains on a three-day lag.

The North Suburban (McHenry and Lake counties) region’s positivity rate stayed at 1.0%. Currently, 28% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, McHenry County’s seven-day positivity rate average rose to 1.2%. Lake County, which does about two-thirds of the testing in the region, is reporting a rolling average of 0.9% for the third day.

Hospitalizations have increased three out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to a total of 17 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The West Suburban (DuPage and Kane counties) region’s positivity rate remained at 1.1%. Currently, 35% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity rate remained at 1.4%, and DuPage County’s stayed flat at 1.0%.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable nine out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to 25 total COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The South Suburban (Will and Kankakee counties) region’s positivity rate decreased to 1.2%. Currently, 34% of ICU beds are available.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable eight out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to 18 total COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The North (Boone, Carroll, DeKalb, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago counties) region’s positivity rate remained at 1.5%. Currently, 20% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, DeKalb County’s positivity rate fell to 1.4%, Lee County’s rate stayed at 0.2%, and Whiteside County’s rose to 3.0%.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable 10 out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to 22 total COVID-19 hospitalizations.

The North-Central (Bureau, Fulton, Grundy, Henderson, Henry, Kendall, Knox, La Salle, Livingston, Marshall, McDonough, McLean, Mercer, Peoria, Putnam, Rock Island, Stark, Tazewell, Warren and Woodford counties) region’s positivity rate rose to 1.5%.

Within this region, La Salle County’s seven-day positivity rate stayed at 1.2% for the third day. Currently, 31% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable for seven out of the past 10 days. The region is down to a total of 31 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

Chicago’s positivity rate stayed at 0.5% for the third day. Currently, 22% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable for 10 out of the past 10 days.

Suburban Cook County’s positivity rate remained at 0.8% for the third day. Currently, 22% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable nine out of the past 10 days in this region.
