The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 356 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 10 additional deaths Friday, and a total of 12,648,167 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered.
For Thursday, the state administered 25,697 shots. Almost 72% (71.8%) of Illinois adults have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose and more than 56% of Illinois adults are fully vaccinated, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The state received the results of 36,972 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Friday afternoon. The state’s positivity rate went up for the second straight day, this time to 0.9%.
Illinois has seen 1,392,552 total cases of the virus, and 23,245 people have died. The state has conducted a total of 25,868,855 tests since the start of the pandemic.
As of late Thursday, Illinois had 424 COVID-19 patients in the hospital. Of those, 97 were in intensive care units, and 35 were on ventilators.
Total COVID-19 hospitalizations in the state have largely remained flat over the past nine days, ranging between 404 and 448 total patients. New COVID-19 cases in Illinois are up 21% week over week.
“Celebrate the Fourth of July holiday weekend while exercising appropriate caution,” IDPH Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike said in a news release. “While many events are outside, it is still important for unvaccinated people to take precautions and, when necessary, avoid large crowds where social distancing is not possible. For indoor events, unvaccinated people should continue to wear masks, and vaccinated individuals may choose to do so as well as the more virulent strain of COVID-19, Delta variant, increases in Illinois.”
Vaccine update: As of Friday, IDPH reported a total of 14,249,655 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been distributed statewide, with 12,648,167 vaccines administered.

The North Suburban (McHenry and Lake counties) region’s positivity rate decreased to 0.8%. Currently, 29% of ICU beds are available.
Within this region, McHenry County’s seven-day positivity rate average stayed flat at 0.8%. Lake County, which does about two-thirds of the testing in the region, is reporting a rolling average of 0.9%.
Hospitalizations have decreased or remained stable eight out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is up to a total of 16 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.
The West Suburban (DuPage and Kane counties) region’s positivity rate stayed flat at 1.0%. Currently, 35% of ICU beds are available.
Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity rate stayed flat at 1.5%, and DuPage County’s stayed flat at 0.8%.
Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable nine out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to 29 total COVID-19 patients in the hospital.
The South Suburban (Will and Kankakee counties) region’s positivity rate increased to 1.1%. Currently, 32% of ICU beds are available.

The North (Boone, Carroll, DeKalb, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago counties) region’s positivity rate increased to 1.5%.
Currently, 20% of ICU beds are available.
Within this region, DeKalb County’s positivity rate fell to 2.2%, Lee County’s rate stayed flat at 0.4%, and Whiteside County’s went up to 1.8%.
Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable 10 out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to 23 total COVID-19 hospitalizations.
The North-Central (Bureau, Fulton, Grundy, Henderson, Henry, Kendall, Knox, La Salle, Livingston, Marshall, McDonough, McLean, Mercer, Peoria, Putnam, Rock Island, Stark, Tazewell, Warren and Woodford counties) region’s positivity rate increased to 1.1%.
Within this region, La Salle County’s seven-day positivity rate decreased to 0.8%. Currently, 34% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable for five out of the past 10 days. The region is down to a total of 40 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.
Chicago’s positivity rate stayed flat at 0.4%. Currently, 22% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable for 10 out of the past 10 days.
Suburban Cook County’s positivity rate stayed flat at 0.6%. Currently, 22% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable nine out of the past 10 days in this region.
