No. 2 seed Ladd rallied to defeat No. 1 Malden 12-10 to capture the BVEC girls basketball tournament title Friday night at Allen School in LaMoille.
Host/No. 5 LaMoille doubled up No. 3 Bradford 36-18 to take third place.
Brooks qualifies for state swimming
Princeton’s Caden Brooks each qualified for the IHSA State Swimming finals in two events at Saturday’s United Township Sectional in East Moline.
Brooks won a pair of events, taking first in the 500 freestyle in 4:43.03 and winning the 100 backstroke in 51.13.

Princeton wins freshmen boys tournament
Princeton won its own freshmen boys basketball tournament on Saturday, defeating Rock Falls 53-36 in the championship game.
The Kittens defeated Bureau Valley, the Princeton sophomore “B” team and Sterling to sweep its pool play.
Team members are: Jayden Fulkerson, Wyatt Koning, Rashawn Phillips, Asa Gartin, Cade Odell, Jordan Reinhardt, Chase Stewart, Arthur Burden, Liam Swearingen, Noah LaPorte and Ian Morris.
They are coached by Mark Rabe and Trent DeVenney.
Logan 8ths finish second in SRC
The Princeton Logan eighth-grade volleyball team finished second in the Starved Rock Conference volleyball tournament at Bureau Valley Saturday.
The Lions beat No. 7 LaSalle and No. 2 Bureau Valley and fell 2-1 to No. 1 Peru in the finals.
Team members are: Kaylee Plymire, Caroline Keutzer, Camryn Driscoll, Sylvie Rutledge and Kathy Maciczak, Audrey Thompson, Charlotte Worrels, Keighley Davis, Reese Reviglio, Izzy Gibson, Makayla Hecht and Chloe Ostrowski. They are coached by Hallie Monroe.
Bureau Valley defeated No. 5 Ottawa for third place.
In the seventh grade tournament, No. 1 Ottawa defeated No. 4 Peru for the championship while No. 3 Bureau Valley defeated No. 1 Princeton for third place.
Top-seeded Princeton was upset by Peru in the semifinals.
