The pedestrian bridge over Interstate 80 in Ottawa is officially open as of Wednesday, which was the original target date for its opening.
Ottawa City Engineer Tom Duttlinger said there still are some remedial and small items that will be updated in the spring, but as far as the pedestrian crossings at the on-ramps, markings and lights, the bridge is finished.
The project had a total cost of $2.5 million, of which $500,000 had to be covered by the city of Ottawa. $2 million was covered by a grant awarded to the city by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
