Re-enactors portraying personnel from a German field hospital attend to the wounded Saturday during the first battle of WWII Recreated in Elks Page Park in Dixon. World War II history was brought to life during the 3-day event, beginning with a sneak peek Friday and going full force Saturday and Sunday with battle simulations between U.S. and German troops. The faux forces take their role as stewards of history seriously, employing vintage gear and armored vehicles, accurately recreating uniforms, and throwing in some pyrotechnics to make the sights and sounds of battle complete, giving audiences a sense of what life on the battlefront was like.
