One person died Sunday afternoon in a wrong-way crash on Rakow Road in Crystal Lake, according to a news release sent by the Crystal Lake Police Department.
Crystal Lake police responded at 1:51 p.m. Sunday to Rakow Road, east of Pyott Road. A 2019 Honda CR-V caused a crash involving four other vehicles while traveling the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of Rakow Road, according to the release. The adult driver and sole occupant of the 2019 Honda CR-V was pronounced dead on scene.
Three adults were sent to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Two other people were released from care at the scene.
According to the initial investigation, the 2019 Honda CR-V was traveling west in the eastbound lanes on Rakow Road from Munshaw Lane. The car struck a 2004 Honda CR-V EX and a 2012 Ford Fusion – both traveling east – and continued driving. It then struck a 2017 Buick Enclave head-on, subsequently causing another collision with a 2011 Nissan Versa. Both of those cars were also traveling east.
Portions of Rakow Road were closed for a short time Sunday while investigators were on scene. The road has since reopened. The investigation is still ongoing.
