Salvation Army partnering with Walmart for ‘Stuff the Bus’

The Streator Salvation Army is preparing for its 2020 Stuff the Bus Campaign, an event put on to help ease the financial burden families are facing because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Instead of having volunteers out and about and buses parked in front of Walmart, there will be a Stuff the Bus bin placed inside the store at 2415 N. Bloomington St. for shoppers to drop off school supplies.

“After discussions with our school administrators, we believe that the need will be even higher this school year due to COVID-19,” said Judy Booze, Salvation Army service director. “Even though schools are looking at a blended format of remote and in-person learning, youth are still in need of supplies for school work and projects, as physical supplies will still be necessary to complete some tasks.”

Donations can be made Friday, Aug. 7 through Sunday, Aug. 9. Supplies needed include notebooks, pens, pencils, folders and art supplies.
