DeKALB – An Aurora man is facing attempted murder charges after DeKalb police arrested him in connection to a July 23 shooting on Ridge Drive that left one injured.
Maurice C. Hamilton, 20, of Aurora, is charged with attempted murder, armed violence, aggravated discharge of a firearm and criminal damage to property. He was arrested on a warrant without incident Thursday in Aurora with the assistance of the Aurora Police Department, according to a news release, and a judge denied bond.
If convicted, Hamilton faces up to 30 years in jail and finds up to $25,000.
About 7:30 p.m. July 23, a vehicle was traveling north on Normal Road and stopped in the roadway in front of the east entrance to the Hunter Ridgebrook Apartment Complex at 808 Ridge Drive, documents show.
A rear seat passenger exited the car, approached two other people at the entrance of the building and began shooting.
Police believe Hamilton's the one who pulled the trigger, according to the release.
One person suffered injuries that were not life-threatening but was not struck by gunfire. DeKalb County scanner traffic reported that day someone had been injured because of shattered glass.
The front door of the apartment complex where the shooting took place was shattered, and police could be seen conducting an investigation in the area later that evening on July 23.
After the shooting, the person who fired the gun was seen getting back into the car, which was last seen traveling north on Normal Road.
