KVAL artists' work published in local magazine

Five members of the Kishwaukee Valley Art League were among the local artists recently selected as part of a special edition for the Your Resource for Living magazine. In this summer issue of the Resource Bank's magazine, emphasis was placed on the natural beauty of the surrounding area.

While the works of several local artists and photographers were accepted for this special issue, several KVAL artists also were included. Those artists are: Richard Born, Tamara Shriver, Pam Bradford, Lisa Riedl and Alec Rossiter.

Born had his sunset photograph of a barn, which once stood at the corner of Coltonville Road and North First Street but has since been torn down, published in the magazine.

Shriver had two of her watercolors accepted, one of the Oakdale Barn in Somonauk, established in 1855, and the other of the Somonauk United Presbyterian Church, established in 1846.

Bradford's wood burned (pyrography) art of a squirrel relaxing outside her kitchen window was included in the issue.

Riedl had two pieces accepted, an oil on paper painting representing the traditional Sycamore Pumpkin Fest and another painting of the 50-foot water tower on the Ellwood House grounds.

Rossiter had two hard shell gourd pieces shown, one with inlaid barbed wire to commemorate DeKalb's role in the invention and development of barbed wire and another gourd carved and dyed to represent a fall wooded scene.

The Kishwaukee Valley Art League is committed to promoting local artists and dedicated to the development of upcoming artists in the Kishwaukee Valley area. Hy-Vee and Waste Management are patron members of the organization.
