Mendota announces plans for July 11 fireworks display

Parking is limited to 350 vehicles

Mendota will host an Independence Day fireworks display and music Saturday, July 11, at Lake Mendota Park.

The Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce coordinated this year’s celebration through donations from community businesses, organizations and individuals.

To ensure the safety and well-being of all spectators, the Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce has been working with local agencies to develop a plan that follows all guidelines in compliance with Phase 4 of Restore Illinois.

Parking is limited to 350 vehicles, with one vehicle per parking space. Chamber volunteers will be available to guide arrivals into parking spots from 7 to 9:15 p.m.

What to Bring

Snacks or other food. There will be no concession stand provided this year.

Blanket and chairs for seating. Each parking spot will have space for seating around vehicles.

Bug Spray. The area that includes both Lake Mendota and Lake Kakusha tends to be highly populated with bugs and bug spray will not be available for purchase at the event.

Other Important Info

Social distancing: Although the venue is a large area, follow CDC guidelines and wear masks when social distancing cannot be maintained.

Per Illinois guidelines, no more than 10 people may be in one designated parking spot. Spectators are encouraged to stay within their designated parking spot.

Smoking is strongly discouraged at this event.

The following are not permitted at this event: alcohol, marijuana, firearms.

Restrooms and portable toilets will be available for use.

Mendota Lions Club will be selling corn dogs beginning at 6 p.m. in the Tire Tracks parking lot, 1505 13th Ave.
