Harvard woman receives probation for delivering heroin to overdose victim

A 46-year-old Harvard woman who delivered heroin to a man who later died of an overdose was sentenced to probation Friday.

Tiera M. Tracy entered a blind guilty plea in January to delivery of a controlled substance in connection with the death of 52-year-old Timothy Goluba. At a sentencing hearing Friday, McHenry County Judge Michael Coppedge ordered Tracy to a term of four years' probation, 18 months of home confinement and 250 hours of public service, records show.

A Harvard Police Department investigation determined that Tracy delivered drugs to Goluba on Jan. 31, 2018. According to court records, Goluba died during the early morning hours of Feb. 1, 2018, from a drug overdose. Authorities later determined it was a dose of heroin, morphine and fentanyl that ultimately killed the man.

Tracy originally was charged with drug-induced homicide, a Class X felony typically punishable by six to 30 years in prison.

Prosecutors agreed to dismiss that charge in exchange for Tracy's plea.

As a condition of Tracy's sentence, she must undergo drug an alcohol treatment. She'll also be subject to electronic home monitoring as well as random drug testing.
