Aurora man charged with sexual abuse of a child

AURORA – An Aurora man has been charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and 14 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Kane County prosecutors allege that Michael G. Bishop, 47, of the 1900 block of Sapphire Lane, Aurora, sexually assaulted and sexually abused two family members between 2008 and 2011, according to a news release from the Kane County State's Attorney's Office. The victims were younger than 13 years old at the time, the release stated.

Bishop faces similar charges with the same victims in DeKalb and Kendall counties. Bishop appeared Thursday in Kane County bond court, where his bail was set at $100,000, with 10 percent ($10,000) to apply for bond. His next court appearance is set for June 30.

“The victims in this case asked that we identify their relationship to the defendant to encourage other potential victims to come forward," Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon said in the release. "They also want other survivors of sexual abuse to know that it is important to disclose abuse to hold offenders accountable. I am deeply grateful for their courage in talking about their abuse and hope others are empowered to do the same no matter when the abuse occurred.”

Anyone with information about Bishop should call 911.
