Mazon man killed by vehicle while in front of his house

63-year-old pronounced dead at the scene

Grundy County Coroner John Callahan’s office along with Grundy County Sheriff’s Department are investigating a car versus pedestrian crash that claimed the life of a Mazon man.

Callahan stated he was notified at 2:25 p.m. Saturday of the incident. Preliminary investigation indicates John A. Cravens Jr., of Grand Ridge Road, was at his mailbox in front of his residence when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle. Cravens, 63, was killed on impact and pronounced dead at the scene by Callahan at 3 p.m. The eastbound vehicle came to rest in the south ditch.

The crash is being reconstructed by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department, assisted at the scene by Mazon Fire and Ambulance.

The incident remains under investigation by the Coroner’s Office and the Sheriff’s Department.
