DeKALB – Little Lambs Preschool of Immanuel Lutheran Church recently celebrated National Lutheran Schools Week. The theme for the week was “Full of God’s Love,” based on 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24.
This is a special week in the life of a Lutheran school, church and community, with events planned to step beyond the routine of school ministry and celebrate the blessings of being a part of a Christian school. Children from Little Lambs Preschool enjoyed many visitors in conjunction with the daily sub-themes, which included “Hopefully,” “Peacefully,” “Joyfully,” “Thankfully” and “Faithfully.”
For the theme “Hopefully,” the children collected items to donate to Tails Humane Society. The children enjoyed visits from several foster animals and learned about caring for those less fortunate and how we can be hopeful and helpful.
Under the theme “Peacefully,” the children were invited to submit their favorite prayer or Bible story. A booklet was created for each family and made available to the members of Immanuel. The children plan to share their books for residents of area nursing homes.
Guest readers were invited from the congregation to read the Bible story for the week to the children. The readers “Joyfully” shared the message of God’s love and talked about the joys of being a member of the church. Parents and community members are continuing the guest reader program.
For the theme “Thankfully,” each child had the opportunity to invite a special adult guest to share in the school day with them. Activities included circle time, chapel time with Pastor Marty and a special brunch. Each child had their picture taken with their guest and then made two photo frames to share with each other.
Culminating the week’s celebration with the theme “Faithfully,” the children were invited to sing as part of the 10:30 a.m. worship service at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
As a traditional preschool for children ages 3 to 5, Little Lambs' days are filled with fun educational activities. A structured and nurturing environment is provided using the guidelines of the area school districts to help children with their kindergarten readiness skills. There is time for discovery, group work, worship, music, art, academic motor skill development and snacks.
Little Lambs Preschool was established in 1996 as a Christian preschool and is licensed by the state of Illinois. Little Lambs is affiliated with DeKalb County Coordinated Childcare and has earned the Illinois ExceleRate Bronze rating.
