Planet Fitness planning to open Woodstock location

Planet Fitness is planning to open a Woodstock location in the former Office Depot building.

Planet Fitness currently is completing cosmetic and signage work, and has yet to move in its gym equipment. An opening date hasn’t been made public, Woodstock Economic Development Director Garrett Anderson said.

“I’ve seen the billboards going up, and they just say ‘coming soon,’ ” Anderson said. “They don’t have a firm open date yet.”

The location will be in the Eastwood Shopping Center at 414 S. Eastwood Drive. Office Depot closed in 2015, and the building has been vacant since that time.

Founded in 1992 in New Hampshire, Planet Fitness operates almost 2,000 clubs. Planet Fitness in Woodstock will be the third in McHenry County. Planet Fitness also has locations in Crystal Lake and McHenry.

Standard memberships to Planet Fitness are $10 a month. An upgraded $22.99 membership allows patrons to work out at any Planet Fitness location and use services such as massage chairs and tanning equipment, according to its website.
