Channahon man pleads guilty to making video recordings of female juvenile

Within two weeks of his arrest, a 36-year-old man pleaded guilty to making a video recording of a child who is younger than the age of 18, according to court records.

On Friday, Richard K. Buss pleaded guilty to one count of making an unauthorized video recording on July 24.

Buss “knowingly made a video recording” of a child younger than age of 18 while she was in the bathroom of his home in the 22900 block of South Patricia Lane in Channahon, according to the criminal complaint.

Buss was arrested and booked into the Will County jail Aug. 27. He released the same day after posting 10% of his $40,000 bond.

His bond initially was set at $75,000 but a Will County judge reduced it. The judge ordered him to have no contact with minors and for his cellphone to be subject to random searches by probation pretrial services.

Buss’ attorney, Ryan Kosztya, said his client made a determination that he would accept responsibility for the unauthorized video recording charge.

He said the victim in this case is a female juvenile.

Kosztya said Buss is eligible for probation. If Will County Judge Dave Carlson, who presided over the case, decides not to give him probation, then he would face a mandatory minimum sentence of two years in prison or a maximum of five years, he said.

Buss is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 16 for a status hearing.

The day before Buss was arrested, his wife filed for divorce.
