BATAVIA – Batavia resident Starisha White recently received a $3,000 grant from Mercy Housing to help her pay for her education expenses.
In June, Mercy Housing awarded its first ever EPIC grants to 14 students in need who live in Mercy Housing communities around the country. White lives in Batavia Apartments, which is a Mercy Housing community.
According to a press release, the grant program provides financial support to low-income student residents. The grants are meant to help the recipients pay for books, tuition or rent.
“Being a resident of Batavia Apartments is helping me to not only reach my career goals, but also to reach other major goals like being financially stable, owning my own home someday and being a great mother to my children," White said in a statement. "I appreciate all the classes and activities Batavia Apartments has to offer. Batavia Apartments is a very beneficial place to live.”
Mercy Housing, the nation’s largest affordable housing organization, partnered with the National Real Estate Practice of EPIC Insurance Brokers & Consultants to provide students in need with this grant for their hard work and vision, according to the press release. The nonprofit organization operates affordable housing communities in 41 states.
