IDOT delays I-55 construction near Arsenal Road

Illinois Department of Transportation officials had to delay part of a construction project on Interstate 55, south of Arsenal Road, after equipment was not delivered on time.

The closure of one northbound lane for the work, which is taking place over the BNSF railroad and Grant Creek in Will County, was scheduled to begin Monday, according to a previous news release from IDOT.

The lane closure now is scheduled to occur in early July,
with I-55 still being reduced to one lane in each direction in early August.

The delay is because of equipment not being delivered on time, IDOT said.

Some work on the project site still will begin on Monday, however.

IDOT aims to widen the interstate’s shoulders and perform some bridge deck repairs.
