A Blackberry Creek Elementary School fifth grader is putting his musical talents to good use. Marcus Simbol will be playing guitar during a solo recital at 6 p.m. March 16 at Da Capo Music Studio in Elburn to raise funds for his school's music department.

Marcus has been playing guitar at the studio since 2014, and has since played in several recitals, including the Blackberry Creek Elementary School Talent Show. He recently began studying voice. In addition to music, Marcus is a districtwide spelling bee champ and is able to solve a Rubik's Cube.

The performance is free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted. Marcus plans to donate the money from this recital to his music teacher, Brandon Fox, so he can purchase new instruments for his music classes.
