Joliet man dies in traffic accident on Christmas

A Joliet man died in a traffic crash in New Lenox Township on Christmas night, according to a news release from the Will County Coroner's Office.

Matthew J. Greaney, 27, was the driver of a vehicle that struck another vehicle on Route 6 near Blodgett Road. He was taken to the Silver Cross Hospital emergency room, where he was pronounced dead at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

An autopsy performed Wednesday by the Will County Coroner's Office showed that Greaney suffered multiple injuries.

The Illinois State Police is handling the investigation into the crash.

The final cause and manner of death will be determined at a later date after final police, autopsy and toxicology reports.
