Police: Crash sends 5-year-old, 1-year-old to hospital

A 5-year-old Marengo boy and 1-year-old Woodstock girl were sent to the hospital after a two-vehicle crash Friday at the intersection of Coral and South Union roads, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

At 3:50 p.m. Friday, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Union Police Department, Marengo Rescue Squad, Marengo Fire Department and Union Fire Department were dispatched to a crash involving a 2001 Ford F150 and a 2013 Toyota Sienna.

Inside the Ford was a 32-year-old man from Troy, Wisconsin, and the 5-year-old Marengo boy. In the Toyota was a 39-year-old woman and 1-year-old girl from Woodstock.

The Ford was traveling east on Coral Road when it failed to stop at the posted stop sign and crashed into the Toyota traveling north on South Union Road, according to the sheriff’s office.

All occupants were wearing their seat belts, and airbags deployed in both vehicles.

The 5-year-old boy in the Ford was flown to Rockford Memorial Hospital by Flight for Life. Authorities described his state as “stable but guarded.”

The man driving the Ford was treated and released at the scene.

Both occupants of the Toyota were taken to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital. Authorities said they were both “stable.”

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit is investigating.
