Beginning Readers: Thursday, Sept. 13, 4:15 to 4:45 p.m. For ages 4-6. Give your child a head start in reading. We will focus on phonics through reading, writing, and games. Register on YPL website. Light snack provided.
Literacy Centers: Thursday, Sept. 13, 5 to 6:30 p.m. or Friday, Sept. 14, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. For ages 3-6. Stop by any time between 5 and 6:30 p.m. on Thursday or 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday to experience a parent guided opportunity for hands on literacy instruction. Literacy Centers are designed to give children ample opportunity to practice the very important skills of listening, reading, writing, and speaking.
LEGO Club: Saturday, Sept. 15, 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. For ages 5 and older. We will make unique creations to display in the children's department. Register on the YPL website.
Ice Cream Book Club: Saturday, Sept. 15, 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. For ages 9-16. Children need to read a chapter book to share with the group. Ice cream will be served during the program. Register at YPL website online registration.
Community Ice Cream Social: Saturday, Sept. 15, 2 to 4 p.m. Join YPL for a day of fun for all ages. Musical entertainment will be provided by Silverstrings. Silverstrings is an acoustic musical trio that brings a combination of masterful musicianship and impeccable harmonies to Classic Country, Bluegrass, and Rock standards. In addition to music, there will also be face painting, games, crafts, and of course ice cream for all to enjoy. Come for the ice cream and stay for the entertainment.
Book Club (1st and 2nd grade): Mondays, Sept. 17 and 24, 4:15 to 4:45 p.m. This is a two session program where we will read an easy chapter book. A light snack will be provided. Register for both programs on the YPL website.
National Talk Like a Pirate Day: Wednesday, Sept. 19. Time for some pirate fun. Stop by anytime Wednesday for games, activities, and photo opts.
Evening Story Time: Thursday, Sept. 20, 6 to 6:30 p.m. Wear your pajamas and listen to some stories with Ms. Jennette. No registration needed, just stop by.
Read with Paws: Saturday, Sept. 22, appointments start at 10:30 a.m. Children can come to the library, select a book and read to a furry friend. All therapy dogs and handlers have been certified by an accredited organization. This program was designed originally because children feel less pressure to read to a dog than an adult; so it was meant to be a way to help struggling readers or even just encourage reading. It is open to all levels of readers and non-readers. Register at YPL website. Space is limited.
Lapsit: Wednesday, Sept. 26, 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. For ages birth to 18 months. Parents sing, clap, and bounce to nursery rhymes and songs with your baby. The last 10 minutes of the program will be play time. Register at YPL website online registration.
Tots and Toddlers: Thursday, Sept. 27, 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. Parents, bring your little ones to listen to stories, rhymes and a complete a craft. Register at YPL website online registration.
