Novak-Rinker Veterinarian Clinic, 1650 First Ave., Ottawa, recently welcomed a new associate veterinarian.
Nikki Olson grew up in Effingham and comes to Ottawa with two years experience as a veterinarian — but she’s been working with animals her whole life.
“I grew up on a farm. I’ve always liked the field,” she said, noting she worked at a veterinary clinic in her youth as well.
Given her background, she particularly likes working with large animals, such as cows, sheep, goats and pigs, she said.
“I like getting out of the office and talking with the farmers,” Olson said. “I like the ag field.”
Olson received her bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and is a graduate of University of Missouri with a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine specializing in large and small animals.
Olson lives in Streator with her husband, Matt Olson, a Streator native, and their dog, Teddy.
