Alleged killer had long criminal history in DuPage County

A Plainfield man accused of beating a woman to death has a history of domestic violence, burglary and harassing a witness in DuPage County.

George L. Hooper, 34, has been charged with killing 42-year-old Jennifer Underhill, a woman with whom police said he was in a relationship. Hooper also was charged with being an armed habitual criminal and with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

Two other Plainfield residents, Rose Parker, 57, and Amanda Weck, 33, were charged with obstructing justice and reckless discharge of a firearm, respectively, in connection with Underhill’s death.

Parker is Hooper's mother and
is alleged to have knowingly concealed a firearm in her car that was present at the scene of Underhill's killing,
and also is alleged to have given Romeoville police the wrong phone number for her son, according to
court records.

Weck is the girlfriend of Hooper’s brother, Geremy Hooper. She allegedly fired a gun into the air, endangering Geremy Hooper’s life.

George Hooper served prison time for aggravated domestic battery, harassment, residential burglary, possession of a weapon and theft.

In 2007, he was charged with aggravated assault and violating a protective order but both charges were dropped, DuPage County State’s Attorney spokesman Paul Darrah said.

In 2009, he pleaded guilty to unlawful contact with a street gang member, and he was sentenced to 90 days in jail after previously serving 90 days while awaiting trial, Darrah said.

George Hooper was paroled from Danville Correctional Center on
Aug. 22.
