The Rotary Northlawn Math Contest was March 8 at Streator’s Northlawn Junior High School. There were 11 participating schools with as many as 16 teams competing per grade level. The 190 students took individual tests and worked with their team member to complete a second test. Saratoga Junior High School from Morris took home first place overall. Northlawn placed second and Ottawa’s Wallace Elementary School placed third.
Sixth-grade students Mya Englert and Brenden Christensen took third- and fourth-place individual honrs, respectively. The sixth-grade team of Christensen, Cade Peterson and Sydney Long, placed first, and the team of Englert, Lily Gardner, Malea Mascal and Isabella Wood placed second.
Parker Phillis placed second individually in seventh grade, and Asa Steenberger placed fourth. Phillis, Steenberger, Abby Pierce, Izzy Tutko and Kristi Hoang placed second as a team. Eighth-grade student Mason Pshak placed third individually.
