Joliet prison committee meets Monday

JOLIET – The new Joliet City Council Prison Committee will hold its first meeting Monday.

The meeting comes a week after the City Council took its first major action on the old Joliet Correctional Center since leasing it from the state. The council this week approved a one-year lease with Evil Intentions to operate a haunted house at the former women's prison that is part of the complex.

The meeting will be at 4 p.m. in the executive conference room at City Hall, 150 W. Jefferson St.

Items listed on the agenda include “What has been done so far?,” “Resources Regarding Old Joliet Prison,” and “Goals of Committee – What Do You Want to Accomplish?”

Committee Chairwoman Bettye Gavin has said she wants anyone with a proposal for activity at the prison to come to the first meeting. Other committee members are Don Dickinson and Terry Morris.
