DIXON – After more than 20 years in Dixon, Burger King, 1301 N. Galena Ave., is closed.

Orange cones blocked the entrance to the parking lot Wednesday, 2 days after the restaurant shut its doors, signage was gone and even the building’s distinctive blue siding had been removed.

The restaurant is owned by Tri City Foods of Downers Grove, which also owns Burger Kings in Marseilles, Morris, Oglesby, Plano, Princeton, Streator and throughout the Chicago metropolitan area; and is planning to open a store in Sandwich this year.

Officials there did not return calls for information on whether the building was being completely dismantled, what the plans for the site might be, or how many people were employed in Dixon.

Burger King opened in Dixon in the mid-1990s; the Burger King at 1509 First Ave. in Rock Falls opened a couple of years later.

That restaurant, owned by Beaton Inc. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, recently underwent a major renovation.
