The Sandwich Middle School’s eighth-grade girls basketball team was honored for its accomplishments in the Illinois State series by the Sandwich School Board at its recent meeting. The team won the Class 3A Regional Championship, beating Morris Saratoga 30-27. It then lost the sectional to South Holland. Coach Garland King (right) gave credit to not only the team but also to the assistant coaches and the parents who supported them. Team members include (from left to right) Audrey Rome, Molly Roberts, Destiny Ortega, Maggie Knepper and Emily Gome. Other team members are Jamie Novak, Frankie Datoli, Kaylee Swickert, Lucia Towne, Grace Fifield, Callie Schindler and Alexis Higdon.
