Carreno set the tone early in the Blue Streaks’ 2-0 victory over Belvidere Saturday in the Class 2A Boylan Regional championship game. He made a run down the left side and as he ran past a Bucs defender, he was tripped in the goal box to produce a penalty kick, which he made.

“No. 18 was their difference-maker,” Belvidere coach Simen Stevens said.

Carreno scored his 20th goal of the season late in the Streaks’ 3-2 loss to Lakes in their Grayslake Central Sectional semifinal on Tuesday. His shot came from 30 yards out with 4:15 remaining and was Woodstock’s second goal in a one-minute span, giving the Streaks hope in the final minutes that they could tie and force overtime.
