Kane County's electric contract with Dynegy Energy LLC, which began in August 2015, will come to an end this August, according to a news release from the Kane County Division of Environmental and Water Resources.

Kane County government has received bids from other electric suppliers during the past few months and chose Constellation NewEnergy Inc. as the new provider. The 12-month contract, which was selected in May, goes into effect in August, according to the release.

The new rate of 7.08 cents per kilowatt hour will be slightly lower than ComEd's Price to Compare of 7.151 per kilowatt hour, which will increase from 6.892 per kilowatt hour in September. Customers will also be able to pay a higher amount of 7.16 cents per kilowatt hour in order to receive 100 percent renewable energy for the same 12-month term; customers need to call 844-232-2162 to request this option, the release stated.

"Even though the new rate for the program won't be as low as it was for the last two years, the program will still provide a small savings for customers," said Ken Anderson, director of the Kane County Division of Environmental and Water Resources, in the release. "Luckily, the current program rate — which is one of the lowest in all of northern Illinois — will continue through the August billing cycle when customers are likely using more electricity during the hot summer months.”

Customers should have received notification letters in mid-June, and had until July 6 to opt out, the release stated.
