FRANKFORT — Christopher R. McFadden, an attorney who had served on the Lincoln-Way and Frankfort school boards, has died at the age of 41.

McFadden was found unresponsive Thursday morning in his Frankfort home, according to Will County Deputy Coroner Kevin Stevenson. An autopsy was performed but the coroner's office will require toxicology results to determine the manner of death, Stevenson said.

McFadden grew up in Shorewood and attended Joliet West High School before receiving degrees from Harvard University and Northwestern University School of Law. After working as a clerk for a federal appeals judge and for a Chicago law firm, he spent several years as a prosecutor for the U.S. Attorney's office. McFadden was most recently working in private practice for Joliet-based Mahoney, Silverman and Cross.

McFadden served on the Frankfort 157-C School Board and was its President from 2013 to 2015. He served nine months on the Lincoln-Way School Board  and was among the trustees who made the difficult decision to shutter the North campus to address the district's financial shortfalls.

McFadden had also been a finalist for the Joliet City Manager's position in 2013 and would regularly submit his name as a candidate for judicial vacancies in Will County.

"I was blessed with a grandmother and two loving parents ... who taught by example," McFadden wrote in a 2005 Herald-News guest column. "I learned the principles of right and wrong, of compassion for the less fortunate and of respect for all people. I had room to grow and to follow my dreams at my own pace. Hopefully, my own children will be so lucky."
