New design showroom opens in Glen Ellyn

Store features exclusive lines, private-label furniture

GLEN ELLYN – Amy Storm wants to unlock the full potential of your home.

Storm and her husband, Josh, of Glen Ellyn, recently opened their Storm-Inspired Showroom at 530 Pennsylvania Ave. in downtown Glen Ellyn. The store is an outgrowth of Designstorms, the couple's interior design firm specializing in residential interior design and decorating. Amy Storm is a licensed interior designer and has been in the business for more than 20 years.

Storm said she sees the showroom as filling a need in the area.

"There was nothing close by here that we were able to use as designers where we could get the high-end furnishings that we were looking for but also get the trade discounts that we get at someplace like the Merchandise Mart in Chicago," she said. "We wanted to create something like that, that was accessible to designers in the suburbs, but also we decided to open it to the public."

The showroom features selected samples of furniture, lighting, rugs and art that can be custom ordered, along with a Storm-Inspired line of private label furniture and accessories, such as tables, hide rugs, handcrafted wall hangings, pillows and decorative items.

"Over the years, we've looked really, really hard to find the best quality of upholstered furniture, custom rugs and things like that at the best pricing," Amy Storm said.

The couple on March 8 kicked off the store's grand opening, which will continue through March 11. On March 9, interior designers and decorators will be able to preview the showroom, and on March 10, the showroom will be open to the public. The day will feature food, giveaways and complimentary mini consultations with designers from the showroom's sister company, Designstorms.

On March 11, there will be an all-day open house for designers and the public to meet the Storm-Inspired and Designstorms staffs. Giveaways and snacks will be provided throughout the day.

Josh Storm said he hopes interior designers will use the showroom as a resource.

"The concept for Storm-Inspired Showroom came mainly out of convenience because she [Amy] didn't have time to get down to the [Merchandise Mart]," Josh Storm said.

Amy Storm noted the Storm-Inspired Showroom also carries lines exclusive to the store.

"And then we have some private label things that we are working on," she said. "We'll have some tables for the grand opening that I'm designing and having made specifically for the store. So there will be some one-of-a-kind pieces that will have my name on them."
