Crystal Lake hhgregg to remain open as company closes 88 stores

CRYSTAL LAKE – Although the company announced plans Thursday to close three distribution facilities and 88 stores, the Crystal Lake hhgregg will remain open.

The home appliances, electronics and furniture store announced the closures, which include six locations in Illinois – Schaumburg, Bloomingdale, Arlington Heights, Niles, Springfield and Champaign.

“We are strategically exiting markets and stores that are not financially profitable for us,” Robert J. Riesbeck, hhgregg’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “This is a proactive decision to streamline our store footprint in the markets where we have been, and will continue to be, important to our customers, vendor partners and communities. We feel strongly that the markets we will remain in are the right ones for our customers and our business model.”

Final closing of the stores, which are listed on a news release from hhgregg, are expected to be complete by mid-April. Closings will result in the elimination of about 1,500 jobs.
