Owner of Glen Ellyn's Paisley on Main to sell store

GLEN ELLYN – As her daughter gets ready to have another child in April, Paisley on Main owner Sue Cleary has made the bittersweet decision to close the store.

"I'm going to miss my staff, and I will certainly miss all my customers," Cleary said. "We just had a customer in here for two hours. ... They are more than customers – they are friends."

Along with the fact that her daughter is about to have her third baby, Cleary has an aging mother in New York whom she would like to visit more. Cleary's customers are extending their well-wishes to her and expressing hope in the store's future.

"Everybody is wishing us luck," she said. "And they want the store to continue."

The store originally was called Giggles 'N Gaggles. Cleary purchased Giggles 'N Gaggles in August 2004, which had been located on Crescent Boulevard in downtown Glen Ellyn. The store featured hand-painted personalized gift items.

After relocating to 494 N. Main St. in August 2006, she changed the name of the store to Paisley on Main.

"I changed the name and everything about it and got away from hand-painted personalized gifts," Cleary said.

Paisley sells gifts such as handbags, jewelry, tabletop pieces, home and seasonal decor, and collegiate items. The store carries several exclusive lines, including Nora Fleming, Spartina 449 and Catstudio.

"It's a great opportunity for someone who is an entrepreneur who can see taking this to the next level, to put their vision into what I started," Cleary said.

The store is nestled among other boutique stores along Main Street, which Cleary enjoys.

"This part of the downtown is definitely a destination," she said. "I couldn't have a better location, as far as I'm concerned."

Cleary's customers still can enjoy her company for the time being, however.

"The sooner, the better, because my daughter's baby is due at the end of April," Cleary said. "I'm not looking to drag this on for six months. But I don't have any time I have to be out of here."

The customers aren't the only ones who will miss Cleary. So will store manager Jennifer Dorn.

"It's been more than a job," Dorn said. "It's a friendship."
