ANNAWAN — Edwin D. McCauley, 87, of Annawan passed away Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, at his home.
Edwin was born Aug. 15, 1929, in Tiskilwa, the son of Dennis and Alice (Johnson) McCauley. He attended Tiskilwa schools. He was united in marriage to Elinora Jaggers on Aug. 15, 1953, in Tiskilwa.
Edwin proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He farmed in rural Sheffield for 20 years before moving to Annawan to continue farming and also worked for Edwards Ready Mix for 28 years as a cement truck driver. Later he worked for Hertz Rental Car at the Moline Airport as a car driver.
Edwin was a lifetime member of the VFW Post in Annawan. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Bears.
He is survived by his wife, Elinora; a daughter, Brenda Verbeck (Ray Krantz) of Geneseo; a son, Mitch (Sue) McCauley of Mineral; a son-in-law, Randall Johnson of Bonita Spring, Fla.; two grandchildren, Jesse McCauley (fiancée, Kati Fetrow) and Austin Verbeck (fiancée Karen Busbey); two stepgrandchildren, Micah McCauley and Michele Todd; two great-grandchildren, Lyla and Jayden; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Katie, Ben, Jacob and Micah; a sister, Babe Malloy of Joliet; and a brother, Paul (Gail) McCauley of Tiskilwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Cynthia L. Johnson, in 2010; a sister, Pat Beatty; and a brother, Leonard McCauley.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory, Atkinson, with the Rev. Terry Lancaster officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Princeton, where military honors will be accorded by the Annawan VFW Post.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Edwin McCauley Memorial Fund, to be distributed amongst several charities.
