Dance Dynamics wins Geneva's Got Talent competition

GENEVA – Dance Dynamics was named the fifth annual Geneva's Got Talent winner and won the $1,000 grand prize on June 25, according to a news release.

Frankie Henson, Madelyn Wardynski, Faith Petersen, Emily Mundry, Lilly Japlon and Maeve Krzysiak performed a dance called “Uninvited” to a song with the same name by Alanis Morissette, the release stated.

Dance Dynamics owner Brittnie Quinn choreographed the dance, the release stated.

“Winning Geneva's Got Talent was such a huge accomplishment for these dancers and the studio,” Quinn stated in the news release. “Being able to showcase their talent and what we do at Dance Dynamics was both a great experience and a great win. … I am so proud of these dancers and of how incredibly they represented Dance Dynamics. These girls have been working hard on this dance all year and really proved to everyone what you can accomplish with discipline, dedication and hard work."

Dance Dynamics is in the Mil Creek subdivision in Blackberry Township, near Geneva.

Geneva’s Got Talent 2016 started with 31 acts auditioning on May 7, the release stated.

Dance Dynamics was among the 16 semi-finalists that were chosen to perform June 22 during Swedish Days. Others were Jessica Blakely, Kaidyn King, Grace Lagattolla, Grace Lenaghan, Matt Skirmont, Addelyn McDonald, Kiley Murray, Katie O'Brien, Aida Skaraite, Meagan Clemens, Ryan Cichon, Maya Hawkins, Fire the Canon, LiveWire and Batavia Academy of Dance.

But due to inclement weather, the semi-finals were canceled and all 16 performers moved on to the finals. Votes of the three judges – Mike Jacoby, Bryan Skreens and Dan Huber – were combined with Facebook votes to determine the winner, the release stated.

Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns served as the emcee.

“This is a great event that brings the community and people of all ages together for free summer fun,” Geneva Park District spokeswoman Traci Wicks stated in the release. “The array of talent each year is just phenomenal. We look forward to seeing even more talent audition for the 2017 Geneva’s Got Talent competition next May.”

The Geneva’s Got Talent event is a collaboration between the park district and the Geneva Chamber of Commerce. The competition was part of the 2016 Swedish Days Festival, which was supported by Northwestern Medicine.
