LOCKPORT – Lockport Township High School’s East Campus physical education teacher Kathy Valich and Central Campus Special Education teacher Lindsey Penwitt have been named Maroon Apple winners for the second semester of the 2015-16 school year.

The Lockport Township High School Foundation awards the Maroon Apple each semester to a teacher or support staff member who has gone “above and beyond” for students and their colleagues.

Along with the honor, the Maroon Apple comes with a monetary gift card and a traveling trophy to be displayed in the classroom.

At East, Valcich was nominated for many reasons including organizing this year’s first ever Student Triathlon for the PE Department. Valcich was instrumental in securing sponsors to fund the event and prizes for participants, and encouraged more than 350 students to take part!

At Central, Penwitt was chosen for putting extra effort into her students on a daily basis.
