LAKE IN THE HILLS – Fire officials are investigating a fire that tore through four cars Wednesday morning outside a used car shop in Lake in the Hills.
Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District firefighters arrived at Hertz Car Sales, 9100 Trinity Drive, about 7:35 a.m. to find two vehicles outside the business engulfed in flames, Battalion Chief John Greene said.
It took firefighters a few minutes to extinguish the flames, Greene said. After white smoke stopped billowing from the vehicles, firefighters removed a hood and a trunk and sprayed water into the engine of a destroyed Toyota 4-Runner.
The Toyota's engine compartment was charred black, as was the trunk of a sedan parked in front of it. The front windshield and a back window of the Toyota had was smashed, as was the back windshield of the sedan.
A Jeep Wrangler and a Ford Escape parked next to the two more severely torched vehicles also were damaged in the blaze.
Greene said it's unclear what caused the fire or exactly how much damage it caused. No one was injured during the fire, he said.
