WINNETKA – Plainfield North senior Carly Kramer, competing for the Plainfield co-op, made history by becoming one of the Joliet area’s few state champions in girls swimming after claiming top honors in the 100-yard butterfly in Saturday’s state finals at New Trier.
Kramer finished second in the same event as a junior. Her winning time Saturday was 54.53 seconds. She will continue her swimming career at Arizona State, which is one of the top programs in the country.
In diving, Lockport’s Carolyn Dietz claimed seventh place with 426.8 points.
Lincoln-Way East’s Fiona McDermott finished 10th in the 200 IM (2:07.4).
In the 200 medley relay, Lincoln-Way East finished 11th with a time of 1:46.96.
Lincoln-Way East’s Makayla Varga finished in 13th (57.05) and Providence’s Maria Papes finished 32nd (58.88) in the 100 butterfly preliminaries.
Lockport’s Jessica Wirtz took 23rd (168.30) in the diving prelims.
Plainfield Central’s Shaw Barney and Kate Meunier finished 27th (2:10.96) and 28th (2:10.99), respectively, in the preliminaries of the 200 IM, while Lincoln-Way Central’s Constance Senese took 36th (2:12.26) and Papes 38th (2:14.57).
Lincoln-Way East’s Michaela Mitchell took 13th in the 100 backstroke (57.58) preliminaries.
In the 200 medley relay preliminaries, Plainfield Central finished 18th (1:48.03) and Lockport was disqualified.
In the preliminaries of the 50 freestyle, Lincoln-Way West’s Caitlyn Schreiber finished 16th (23.95) and Varga tied for 39th (24.82).
Lincoln-Way East’s Cailin Merck came in 23rd (1:06.75), Meunier 35th (1:08.20) and Senese 40th (1:09.42) in the 100 breaststroke preliminaries.
In the 200 freestyle preliminaries, Lincoln-Way Central’s Kim Bernhard finished 32nd (1:58.13).
Lockport finished 28th (1:39.52), Lincoln-Way East 30th (1:40.29) and Plainfield Central 32nd (1:40.70) in the 200 free relay preliminaries.
Lincoln-Way East finished 29th in the 400 free relay preliminaries (3:38.17).
