Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran Church celebrates 50 years

LOCKPORT – In the spring of 1965, Zion Lutheran Church, org. in 1875, merged with Trinity Lutheran Church, org.1932, in Lockport.

Both congregations agreed to select a new name, call a new pastor and construct a new church. In the autumn of 1965, Shepherd of the Hill was chosen as the favored name. Reverend Paul Johns was called as first pastor and construction of the new church building started in the spring of 1968, located at 925 E. 9th St. in Lockport. An open house and celebration of its initial worship service was held in February, 1970.

The commencement and year long celebration will begin with a special service at 10 a.m. Nov. 8 at Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran Church, followed by a lunch at Prairie Bluff Golf Course. Attendees will include past pastors who served our church as well as past and present members.

Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran Church is located at 925 E. 9th Street in Lockport. Its mission is “To Know Jesus and to Make Jesus Known."
