Base Supply Center offers services on base

Servmart, or the Base Supply Center (BSC), offers Naval Station Great Lakes everything from office supplies to janitorial supplies. It is the local Ability One agency, which means it is a not for profit federal agency that provides job opportunities for the legally blind. Some of the vendors also donate a percentage of their profits to the Blinded Veterans Association.

Customer service appreciation is an important aspect of maintaining a loyal customer base; that is a concept that BSC understands. Annually, for the past 18 years, they have hosted a customer appreciation luncheon. At this year’s luncheon on July 22, six vendors set up tables to inform the attendees of the new products avaliable for purchase. The food served was baked chicken, garlic potatoes, corn bread, biscuits, salad, and cake for dessert.

Jim Kerlin, BSC CEO, “This event is going wonderfully. It’s our way of saying thank you to all of the people we support and our customers. Every dollar spent at our store benefits the blind.”
