GLEN ELLYN – Ever wish to hang from a soft fabric hammock and swing around in yoga poses for a while?
Customers will get the chance to feel like a member of Cirque du Soleil as Glen Ellyn-based Mindful Movements Pilates & Yoga teams up with Aviana Aerial Yoga to bring aerial yoga to the Glen Ellyn community.
The studio is holding two series, a four-week session and a five-week session, of aerial yoga classes led by Aviana Aerial Yoga Owner Holly Johnson on Mondays at their studio, 22W550 Poss St. The first session began May 11 and runs through June 8; the second session runs from June 15 to July 13.
Aerial yoga combines aspects of traditional yoga poses done on the floor with postures practiced using a soft fabric “trapeze” (called a “sling”) while suspended at waist height.
"With the yoga philosophy as our foundation, we expand upon our individual presence, passion and purpose so that we may help guide our students through their own life transformation.” Johnson said.
Amie Langus, account manager for Aviana Yoga, swears by the benefits of aerial yoga.
“Aerial yoga is so unique because it offers an accessibility to poses one never thought possible,” Langus said. "Aerial yoga allows a release that is unlike anything I have ever experienced. When I’m in the hammock, I feel free, light, graceful, and so at peace.”
Holly Johnson will also be guiding Mindful Movements’ first 50 Hour Teacher Training program on aerial yoga. The teacher training will allow instructors to attend a three-day training from June 5 to 7, plus 50 extra hours of teaching classes to complete certification in aerial yoga.
April Bredy, co-owner of Mindful Movements, hopes that clients will love the addition of aerial yoga and look forward to delving further into the specialized form of yoga.
“We hope that if they love it as a form of yoga that they continue to stop by our studio and enjoy the classes,” she said.
