JOLIET - A man accused of stealing an ambulance last month wanted protection from police.
Instead, he's facing arrest.
On Tuesday, Ross Crampton came into the Will County Courthouse to seek an order of protection, according to court records.
Crampton allegedly requested they be served on the New Lenox Police Department, Will County Sheriff's Police, Manhattan Police Department, Frankfort Police Department and the Central Intelligence Agency.
"When he was told by the clerks he would need names to submit the orders, (Crampton) became argumentative (but) left when deputies arrived," a memo being circulating around the courthouse on Thursday read.
"There was a potential security issue we wanted the staff to be aware of," Acting Chief Judge Dave Carlson said.
On Thursday afternoon, Carlson ordered Crampton's bond revoked and issued a warrant for his arrest.
"He came to the courthouse exhibiting disruptive behavior that caused great concern for the safety of himself and others," Carlson said.
Crampton, 29, of the 17300 block of Oak Park Avenue in New Lenox, was arrested and charged with auto theft after police allege he stole an ambulance from Silver Cross Hospital on Feb. 22.
Crampton was taken to the hospital for a psychological evaluation following a standoff in Manhattan that morning, according to New Lenox police.
Crampton allegedly took a private ambulance, and officers tracked it to a residence in the 200 block of Locust Lane, where they "observed a man inside yelling for help," according to police reports.
When police entered the home, Crampton ran outside, where he was taken into custody, police said.
Crampton was released from jail March 2 after posting 10 percent of his $100,000 bond in the theft case.
On Sunday, Crampton was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge by New Lenox police for allegedly showing a badge to a customer at Starbucks and claiming he was a security officer who wanted to search her purse.
