OHIO – Catherine M. "Kay" Wentworth-Sheilds, 77, of Ohio, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton.
She was born June 20, 1937, in Princeton, the daughter of Everett "Doc" and Marie (Lally) Johnson. She was a stewardess for Pan Am Airlines during the golden age of air travel, when air travel was a luxury. While working for Pan Am, she flew on the press plane that accompanied President Kennedy on his trip to Dallas. She was riding two cars behind the presidential limo when President Kennedy was shot. She also was a personal assistant to film director Stanley Kubrick, while he was working on "2001: A Space Odyssey," and "Clockwork Orange." She did research on his project about Napoleon, by some accounts, "the greatest film never made." She co-authored a book with her husband called "Clarice Cliff," about the pioneer art deco ceramic artist of the 1930s. She married Peter Wentworth-Sheilds on Jan. 14, 1974, in London.
Survivors include her husband of Ohio; one son, William Wentworth-Sheilds of Chicago; one brother, Art Johnson of Dixon; and sister-in-law, Patsy Johnson of Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Felix Johnson.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday and the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ohio, with the Rev. Tom Shaw officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Ohio. Jones Funeral Home in Dixon is handling arrangements.
Memorials have been established to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Illinois Math and Science Academy in Aurora.
