RIVERSIDE – Village Manager Peter Scalera announced Aug. 19 that he would be leaving the village of Riverside for a new opportunity in Bloomingdale.
Scalera, who is a 10-year resident of Bloomingdale, said he is excited about the new opportunity to work in the community where he also lives.
"There are a number of economic initiatives [Bloomingdale] is undertaking that are exciting and I'd like to be a part of," Scalera said. "I couldn't pass that up."
Scalera has served as village manager of Riverside since 2009. He will be taking the position of village administrator in Bloomingdale after his contract with the village of Riverside ends on Oct. 15.
"Depending on how the board wants to approach it, it could be sooner," he said when asked when his last day would be.
In a statement, Riverside Village President Ben Sells called Scalera a well respected leader who has been a positive influence on the village.
Scalera handed in his letter of resignation to Sells Aug. 15.
Scalera said he will miss working for Riverside and its community.
"People really care about [Riverside] and that shows," Scalera said.
He said he will most miss working with residents and the experienced department heads who have been his co-workers during his time at the village.
Still, he's excited to get started.
"In the beginning, I'll be there to learn," he said. "But I want to get moving quickly."
On Monday, Finance Director Jessica Frances was appointed interim village manager, which will be effective Sept 15.
Village President Ben Sells said it is the board's hope that she take over the position permanently and that the village will not be conducting a search for a new full-time replacement.
“Ms. Frances has excelled as Finance Director, “said Sells in a statement. “And the Village Board is confident that she will also be an excellent Interim Village Manager."
Frances has been with the village since January 2012.
