BARRINGTON – Two Barrington students earned a qualifying spot in the 2014 Illinois National Geographic Bee. One placed in the top 20.
The competition was held Friday at the College of Du Page in Glen Ellyn.
Peter Chmiel, an eighth grader at Station middle school, and Liam Starnes, a fifth grader at Hough Street elementary school, were two of 100 students selected within the state to advance to finals.
Starnes was one of 20 to score a perfect 8 out of 8 points in the preliminary rounds of the bee. Starnes went on to compete in a tie-breaker session., but did not make the final ten.
Last year at state, former Station student Pranav Sivakumar placed second in the competition.
