MANLIUS — Hubert Gerald Hewitt, 87, of Manlius died at 8:55 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at Walnut Manor in Walnut.
Born Dec. 24, 1924, in Manlius to Stacy & Nettie (Olson) Hewitt, he married Juanita Mae Pratt June 26, 1965, in Manlius. She died Sept 9, 1990.
He was a 1944 graduate of Manlius High School. He farmed for 40 years and worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation for 13 years. He also Worked as a plumber in Manlius and Kewanee area. He served in the U.S. Army as a T5-CLP from 1944 to 1946 in Italy during World War II.
He was a member of the Manlius Sportsmans Club, Manlius Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years and the New Bedford Christian Church. He was an avid golfer, and a former member of the Hidden Lake Country Club and Green River Country Club.
Surviving are three sons, Rodney Hewitt of Manlius, Larry (Colleen) Hewitt of Arlington Heights and Paul (Debbie) Hewitt of Grand Rapids, Mich.; one daughter, Sheila Hewitt of Alameda, Calif.; five grandchildren, Lainey, Lucy, Grace and Ethan Hewitt, and Sesi Lui; and two brothers, Clayton (Elaine) Hewitt of Manlius and Ronald (Connie) Hewitt of Sarasota, Fla.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Marvin, George, Warren and Arva Hewitt; and two sisters, Verda Clausen and Rita Hewitt.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the New Bedford Christian Church with Pastor David Beebe officiating. Burial will be in the Manlius Cemetery, Manlius, with military rites conducted by Wyanet. V.F.W. Post 6634.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton.
