LAKEMOOR – The village of Lakemoor may not be larger, but it is no stranger to major fun. Those at Saturday’s Lakemoor Fest were knee-deep in local fare – sipping cold brews and lemon shake-ups, and dancing like no one is looking to Centerfold.
The newly expanded Morrison Park tucked next to Lily Lake was in full swing by noon. People crowded the festival grounds, drawn by beautiful weather and the mouth-watering aroma of food vendors.
Angela Quinlan of Lakemoor was with family. Her husband, Ryan, and 4-year-old son, Riordan, feasted on hot dogs and homemade potato chips while their 10-week-old son, Grayson, napped in his stroller, paying no mind foot-tapping music. The faint clinking of a horseshoe tournament was barely audible in the distance.
Although the Quinlans have lived in Lakemoor for seven years, it was their first turn at the local festival.
“Riordan wanted to come ride the ponies on the merry-go-round and I wanted to try a fried Twinkie,” Angela Quinlan said. And she boasted about the fireworks that were to be put on in the evening.
“The fireworks are amazing! It’s so great for such a tiny town like Lakemoor to be able to draw such a big crowd because of what we have to offer,” she said.
Lakemoor Village President Todd Weihofen estimated the fireworks would draw thousands of spectators. A good stretch of Route 120 was shut to accommodate the crowd.
“The festival really gives the town something to look forward to. People come to enjoy the food, the fun and their neighbors,” Weihofen said. “People here schedule their parties and vacations around this festival and the fireworks.”
Mad Bomber Fireworks Productions put on the show.
The music of Jak Tripper brought the crowd to their feet before the fireworks put on by Mad Bomber Fireworks Productions.
Lakemoor Fest continues today, with gates opening at 11 a.m. The festival ends at 6 p.m. In between, there will be a baggo tournament, tug of war, children’s treasure hunt, raffle and the musical stylings of The Original Rockin’ Fenderskirts.
