HINCKLEY – Attempted murder charges have been filed against a man authorities say stabbed another man early Friday morning.
The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a residence in rural Hinckley at 1:39 a.m. Friday for a report of a man in his early 20s who had been stabbed, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
DeKalb County Sheriff Roger Scott said the victim was stabbed in the chest area by another man. The victim and the male suspect were in a dispute over a relationship with a female friend, Scott said. The dispute was between an ex-boyfriend and current boyfriend of the female, he said.
A warrant was issued Friday for Eric Larson, 23, in connection with the incident, according to Prosecutor Phil Montgomery with the DeKalb County State's Attorney's Office.
Larson has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, a Class X felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison, and armed violence, also a Class X felony, but the minimum punishment for that offense is 10 years instead of six because of the use of a knife, Montgomery said.
Larson also is charged with two counts of aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony punishable by up to five years in prison. Bond was set in the warrant at $350,000.
Authorities said both men were injured in the incident. The victim was taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb, then airlifted to OSF Saint Anthony's Medical Center in Rockford, according to the news release.
The suspected offender is being treated at KCH, according to the news release. Scott said the suspect was injured during the altercation and had self-inflicted injuries.
The incident is still under investigation by the sheriff's office.
Larson was still in the hospital as of Friday afternoon, and Montgomery was not sure when he would be released. When he is, Larson will be taken into custody, Montgomery said.
